Substitutes: When teams are short players, substitute openings will usually be announced by email on Monday evenings. First responders generally get the available spots. Subs are assigned by the League Director or Team Captains if needed.
Sportsmanship & Fair Play: Good sportsmanship is expected from everyone. We all want to compete, but the larger goal is enjoying the season together as a community.
Captains are responsible for:
Helping organize their teams
Assisting with score sheets
Communicating schedule issues
Helping resolve any questions respectfully
Submitting score sheets (completed clearly and accurately) each night. It must be absolutely clear which team won each of the 3 games played.
To help keep games fair and enjoyable when teams are short players, we use a few special house rules:
Stay on Your Side
Once a game begins, players remain on their assigned end of the court for the entire game. Players should not walk back and forth between ends during play. Team Captains or designated players will organize player positioning. You switch sides after each completed game.
If a team has only 3 players:
One player will play from one end
Two players will play from the opposite end
The solo player should rotate each game so all players share the responsibility evenly
If a team has only 2 players:
Each player throws 4 balls
This allows teams to continue throwing 8 total balls per frame, consistent with our long-standing league format
Minimum Players Required: A team must have at least 2 players present to begin play.
If only 1 player is present at game time:
The match is considered forfeited
The opposing team receives the 3 game wins for the evening
Mobility Considerations: Some players may have difficulty stepping in and out of the bocce pits. When both teams agree, players with mobility limitations may remain near the edge of the court during play. Please be considerate and supportive of one another.
We’re looking forward to another excellent season of bocce with all of you!
Kind Regards,
Mark Annati
